Waze
Headquartered in Ra'anana, Israel, and Palo Alto, California, Waze is the world's largest community-based traffic and navigation app. By connecting drivers to one another, Waze helps create local driving communities where people work together to improve the quality of everyone's daily driving. After typing in their destination address, users drive with the app open on their phone to passively contribute traffic and other road data. They can also take a more active role by sharing road reports on accidents, traffic stops, or other obstacles along the way. In addition to the local communities of drivers using the app, Waze is also home to an active community of online map editors who ensure that the data in their areas is as up-to-date as possible.
On June 11, 2013, Google acquired Waze for $1.3 billion. Each of Waze's 100 employees were to receive an average of $1.2 million in the deal, which represents the largest payout to employees in the history of Israeli high tech.
